Griz Prep Coastal Carolina

Posted: Updated:

Tomorrow the Griz will host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the second round of the FCS playoffs.  They are a dangerous team that averages 43 points per game which is led by their star running back Lorenzo Taliaferro and quarterback Alex Ross.

"He is a young red shirt sophomore that manages the game really well throws well and runs well.  They are a zone read team to an extent, and they have a running back a big strong guy 6'2 230," said Griz Head Coach Mick Delaney.

"He runs real low and like coach said he is about 235, so kind of like a Brandon Jacobs esque type running back," said Senior DT Alex Bienemann.

Defensively the Chanticleers are a bend but don't break defense that will give up some yards but give up explosive plays.

"What they want to do on defense is stay real sound keep the ball in front of them and not give you big chunks, they're a good football team," said Delaney.

Coastal Carolina's coach Joe Moglia admits Montana will have two advantages in this game, the first being the crowd.

"They're in the mountains and some how the mountains enhances the decibel level so that's why, if it's not that loud that's fine with us but we are assuming it's going to be very loud," said Moglia.

And the second advantage being the weather.

"I think when you're used to playing in cold weather, like if our guys are used to fifty degrees and their guys are used to twenty degrees that's an advantage.  But you know what, when you're playing in twenty degrees and it's seven degrees that's colder than seven degrees.

Even if the weather proves to not be a factor Coastal will have their hands full against a Griz defense that has given up only one touchdown in the last ten quarters and playing their best football of the season.

"I don't know right around Weber it seems that everyone gets everything together and that's when we get everything rolling and that's why the Griz are so good in the playoffs and in December," said Bienemann.

Kick off is at noon and the expected temperature is a balmy negative two degrees.
