Hellgate Knights Basketball: Ready to Repeat

Posted: Updated:

The Defending State Champion Hellgate Knights had their first official practices this week, and after last years ride this basketball season couldn't have come quicker.

"We're ready to go, I mean we have all been working hard in the offseason so having the season come around we are ready to put it to them," said Senior Guard Brady Henthorn.

With the majority of their championship team returning the Knights are expected to contend, if not heavy favorites, to win a state title again this season.

"Well I think around our team expectations are high within us, but overall I think we need to take it day by day because this team here hasn't proven anything yet and that was last years team and we need to forget about that," said Senior Center Pat Colberg.

"We've got a really special group of guys, they are talented but more importantly they're great kids, they work hard and they love to compete," said Knights Head Coach Jeff Hays.

The Knights have a complete starting five, throw in three or four studs coming off the bench and their roster is dynamic.  The toughest challenge for Coach Hayes and his staff will be spreading out the shots and utilizing all their talent.

"They are unselfish but they are competitive too and they're all going to want a piece of the action," said Hays.

But if your biggest problem is managing talent there's really not much to complain about.

"It is a great problem to have and any time you have this kind of depth and flexibility there's a lot of options and possibilities and try to manage and keep them sharp as well," said Hays.

Not only are the Knights players ready for the season to start but so is the whole school.

"We are all excited and our friends are as well they want to see us do well and come and support us, I know a lot of the football guys are ready to get things going and be on the other end of it and forget about the season so we are ready to go and we're hungry," said Henthorn.
