Posted: Updated:

Authorities released the names of the couple involved in a stabbing in Whitefish Monday, November 25.

Although authorities refused to comment while contacting next of kin and continuing to search for answers, police put out a release saying the two elementary school-aged children were unharmed.

A man is in the ICU after allegedly being stabbed by his wife in a house on O'Brien Avenue in Whitefish.

Whitefish police say 39-year-old AnnMari Newton attacked her husband, 37-year-old Chad Newton Monday night while their two young children were at home with them.

Whitefish police got the 911 call a little after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, and found Chad Newton collapsed on the kitchen floor with a stab wound to the chest. Police say he was stabbed with a kitchen knife.

Chad Newton is now at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where he received emergency surgery last night, and his wife, who was arrested for aggravated assault, is being held in the Flathead County Detention Center waiting to be charged by the Flathead County Attorney's Office.

So far, officers are saying this was part of a verbal disagreement. While they did not want to go on camera, several neighbors told admitted that they suspect alcohol played a role.

The next door neighbors say they have been taking care of the kids while the investigation is ongoing.

The neighbors we contacted as well as Whitefish authorities refused to speak about the incident on camera.

Although the children were not hurt, authorities called Child Protective Services, who placed them in the custody of a friend.
