Missoula City Council confirmed Monday night, Assistant Police Chief Mike Brady will take over the reigns once current Chief Mark Muir retires in December, after a 23 year career.

Earlier this year, Missoula police entered an agreement with the Department of Justice to improve their response to reports of sexual assaults. Muir said he's confident Brady will lead the department through the rest of the DOJ requirements.

Now that city council approved the move, Brady will start his new position as chief December 20.
