Lady Griz' Sullivan a Class Act On and Off The Court

Posted: Updated:

When you look over what Jordan Sullivan has done away from the basketball court, she's racked up volunteer hours for nearly 20 different organizations and events, many of them to help children.

"Everyone was that little boy or little girl growing up.  They all had someone that they looked up to, and for our team to go out and help with kids, it's pretty neat to think that you might have an ounce of an influence on them," says the Lady Griz senior Sullivan.

"She gives a ton of herself to others, always.  She's always doing stuff, and helping, and I'm not sure how she does it.  She's got a tremendously heavy work-load because of business school, she's won some honors there, and she's just a great person," says Lady Griz coach Robin Selvig.

At halftime of this weekend's brawl of the wild, Sullivan will be honored as one of nine outstanding student-athletes who give their time to community engagement, something she's proud to be a part of.

"I saw the list of people who've gotten it in the past, and that was my indicator that this was a pretty neat thing, because I recognize some names on the list, and they were people I've looked up to before," says Sullivan, of the Community Engagement Award.

She's the co president for the student athlete advisory committee, has been selected  of 30 students wide for an interactive marketing experience in New York, and presented a research project in collaboration with Nike Trail Running over the summer at the Nike headquarters, but arguably the most memorable experience, was dressing up as Rapunzel for kids at an event at Caras Park.

"They said, 'do you mind?' and I said no, I love being Rapunzel, and I was that again for Halloween this year, and it was really fun.  The little kids really think you are her (Rapunzel)," says Sullivan.

While all the Lady Griz are active in the community, what Sullivan has done is nothing short of incredible.

"I'm her uncle, so I'm going to think a lot of positive things, but you ask anyone whose around her, she's a sweetheart," says Selvig.

But if you ask her, Jordan says it's all a bi-product of the passion Robin Selvig instills in the basketball program.

"You just know how passionate he is about this program and he just has the heart for every single player that comes through, so that builds the whole deal, and everybody leaves with this connection to this program, and to the University of Montana, so it's pretty special," says Sullivan.
