Cats Running back Cody Kirk grew up in Frenchtown, right in Griz country. But the senior was a die hard bobcat fan. His uncle played on the 1984 championship team. It wasn't easy sometimes rooting for the Blue and Gold.
"It was tough during the streak it was not easy. I have a great memory when we broke that streak. I was at home and my cousins came over we were so excited. The Missoulian's title the next day was "Snow Joke" and it was hanging in my room for the next two years," said Kirk.
Griz linebacker Brock Coyle grew up in Bozeman. The senior understands what Cat Griz is all about.
"Being from Bozeman and finishing my regular season career down there I have a great appreciation for this rivalry seeing it when I was growing up down there. It's huge for any Grizzly," said Brock Coyle.
Now Kirk wasn't a highly touted high school recruit, but questions marks have turned into great success.
"I didn't know what was going to happen. I was just a lowly kid from Frenchtown. I didn't know Coach Ash didn't know we really didn't know You can never tell you have injuries you have all that stuff fortunately I got thru that stuff and sometimes you have to have a little luck and I've had that," said Kirk.
Kirk returns to his hometown and always sharing his love for Montana State.
"I was in Frenchtown a few weeks ago during the bye week and I went to the school and hopefully I made a few conversions. It was like a mission," said Kirk.
