Selvig Reaches 800

Posted: Updated:

It was a historic night for legendary Lady Griz head Coach Robin Selvig.  Montana beat Portland 68-61 making it the 800th victory of Selvig's career, something he doesn't want to share with just himself.

"You know I really think it's a neat deal when a whole bunch of people feel apart of that because they are.  It's something if you keep to yourself it isn't all that meaningful if you can't share it with a whole bunch of people," said Robin Selvig.

Selvig is the eighth coach to win 800 games in Division one women's history and is the sixth fastest to achieve that mark in both men's and women's.  He now has an overall record of 800 wins and 255 losses which equates to a 75.8 winning percentage.

"I don't know what's more impressive the 800 wins or the 36 years as a coach?  You know that's an awfully long time but it sure says a lot about his ability and you just don't see coaches stay in that amount of time and be successful," said Griz Head Coach Wayne Tinkle.

So with 36 years and 800 wins under his belt is Coach Selvig done anytime soon?

"Geez, I don't know what else I would do I don't fish, I don't hunt, it's just what I do.  The fun part of this job is getting around those kids everyday, just trying to win basketball games and getting around them is what keeps you in this.  I don't know am I looking old?
