State Funds Issues $12M to Policyholders

MISSOULA -

The Montana State Fund -- used as worker's compensation -- issued $12 million to policyholders -- the largest dividend in the fund's history.

State Fund officials said about 23,000 employers who had policies between July 2010 and June 2011 are eligible for a share of the money.

Employers will receive about $578, but the money is split based on each policyholder's premiums and yearly claims.

"We're hoping that employers -- the policyholders -- will take that money and reinvest in safety, reinvest in employees and their business, and again when you're reinvesting in those things, it just helps the Montana economy," said Mary Boyle, of Montana State Fund.

Last year, the State Fund dividend was $10 million.

Montana State Fund provides workers' compensation coverage and safety education resources to approximately 26,000 employers in the state, making it the largest workers' compensation insurance company in Montana.
