Anaconda and Butte Celebrate Transgender Week

Posted: Updated:
ANACONDA -

Tuesday night is the kickoff of transgender week in Butte and Anaconda.

Several events will be held between the two towns to celebrate transgender week, which is also recognized worldwide.

Those events include book readings and awareness meetings.

It culminates on Saturday, the Transgender Day of Remembrance, to honor transgender people who died from violence.

"In this community it's a major event because we're trying to bring recognition and solidarity to the transgender community and bring support, not to me so much, but to the transgender community as a whole," said Dawnne Woodie with the Anaconda Coalition for Tolerance Education.

On Wednesday in Butte there will be "Transgender 101" at the PFLAG meeting.

There will be a pizza party on Thursday for young people, particularly for high school students.

Saturday evening will be the Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial Service at the Anaconda Methodist Church.
