SEVERE WEATHER: Tornadoes Level Neighborhoods

WASHINGTON, Ill. (AP) - The mayor of Washington, Ill., estimates that up to 500 homes in his town were either damaged or destroyed by a wave of fierce storms that brought damaging winds and tornadoes to 12 states yesterday.
    
Mayor Gary Manier says, "Everybody's without power, but some people are without everything."
    
At least six people in Illinois were killed and dozens more injured.
    
Washington resident Curt Zehr says his wife and adult son scrambled into their basement when Zehr spotted a funnel cloud.
    
Zehr says moments later, the house was gone, but his family was uninjured.
    
Forecasters say Illinois was the hardest hit. The National Weather Service say up to 40 tornadoes may have hit the Midwest.

    LA CROSSE, Wis. - A Wisconsin father convicted in the death of his malnourished, dehydrated 3-year-old daughter has been sentenced to five years in prison. Thirty-three-year-old Dylan Bartsh was also sentenced Wednesday to five years of extended supervision. Bartsh earlier pleaded no contest to child neglect resulting in death in the October 2014 death of Audryna Bartsh.

    FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A Texas man convicted of beating and stomping his girlfriend's baby daughter to death then burying her body has been sentenced to life in prison.   A Tarrant County jury sentenced 24-year-old Joshua Beard of Arlington on Monday. Beard was convicted of murder on Saturday in the 2014 death of 18-month-old Tylea Moore.
