Montana Tech Defensive End's Strong Attitude

Posted: Updated:
"Well I came in as a DB, 200 pounds no one knew my name. No one knew who I was."

For two years, Jacob Workman was on the Montana Tech scout team. The Fairfield Montana native didn't get any playing time. Then Spring ball came around in 2010. He was sixth string and had doubts about staying on the team. But then he talked to his father.

"Dad I think I'm going to quit I don't think I"m going to make it. He goes just make it one more week just do one more week. I said ok. First practice I didn't get any reps. Second practice I was like hey coach just put me in for one play and he put me in for one play and I got a sack. I got in trouble for sacking Nick Baker. By the end of that week I was 2nd string and I had been starting ever since," said Workman.

The following year he did start on the defensive line. He won't fool you with his size, but he produces.

"He's just an average guy I mean just an average dude. I don't think he intimidates people by his presence but what he does is light you up on game day," said head coach Chuck Morrell.

The senior captain is a beast. Workman has recorded eight sacks and ten tackles for a loss this season. Coach Morrell has noticed his progression.

"I've seen him get better over the last couple of years. Just watching him grow up three years ago when he started for us the first time to today it's just been an inch at a time," said Morrell.

Workman will apply his attitude on the football field to the real world after graduation.

"Live off of what I learned off of football and Coach Morrell and just winning all the time and just never giving up. It's a good way to live your life and I'm going to go on from there."
