Man Struck by Vehicle While Fleeing from Police

Whitehall -

A 22-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to flee from police near Whitehall.

According to the Jefferson County police, Vince DeMers was pulled over by police on Friday night in Whitehall.

During the traffic stop, police say the man exited his vehicle and escaped on foot.

Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning police located DeMers again, when they found him walking alongside Interstate 90.

Police say they attempted to make contact with DeMers, but again he took off running.

Upon fleeing, authorities say DeMers allegedly crossed the interstate, jumped over the median, and was struck by oncoming traffic.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officials say they are continuing to investigate.
