Can the Griz and Can the Cats Food Drive Begins Saturday

BOZEMAN -

It's time to dig through your cupboards and purchase a few extra items at the grocery store.

The 14th annual Can the Griz and Can the Cats food drives kick off Saturday.

It is an off-field competition to see which school can collect the most donations for their local food banks.

You can drop off donations to participating businesses in Bozeman and Missoula.

Organizers say the community gets behind the drive a little more every year, last year they broke the record in each community.

"We anticipate we are going to exceed those numbers as well because we're fortunate that the Missoula area community and the Bozeman area community really embrace this competition," said Kathryn Tanner, MSU Office of Activities and Engagement.

Last year the Cats won, donating more than 68,515 pounds of food plus about $29,000 to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.

UM and Missoula donated just over 29,025 pounds of food plus $28,968.40.
