Missoula Schools Seek Input on Arts Edu.

MISSOULA -

Missoula County Public Schools officials are asking for input from local artists and art teachers, in hopes of strengthening school arts programs.

Missoula is one of 13 cities across the country participating in the John F. Kennedy Center's "Any Given Child" program -- aimed at expanding arts education.

MCPS officials have posted three surveys on their web site -- one each for artists, arts organizations and MCPS arts teachers.

They said this school year, they'll collect data from the surveys to determine their current K-8 arts education resources, and where the gaps are for students.

"We want to be able to incorporate the arts into the education of students, we've found through all sorts of research that when you embed the arts into learning, kids do better," John Combs, MCPS Fine Arts Supervisor, said.

The surveys were posted Friday, and will remain online for one week.
