"You gotta get in the endzone. You got one second left. You got to find a spot where there's not as many guys. Tap threw it in the right spot and I just went up and got it."
Senior wide receiver Zack Kinney did get it. The Hail Marry gave Montana Tech the win over MSU Northern as time expired. Head coach Chuck Morrell is really proud of his team's performance.
"So excited for our guys. They kept fighting and hanging in there. They executed really well at the end it's one of those plays you practice it 1000 times and you never use it and the guys really executed it to a T," said head coach Chuck Morrell.
Now this is how far the ball traveled on the miracle play. And as soon as soon as quarterback Herman Tapley saw the referees hands go up to signal a touchdown, he's never ran faster to greet his teammates.
"I cried like a baby. I never ran so fast. I'm not the guy with much speed but when I ran a 4.3 and it was just so much emotion coming from that game because this season we've been doubted and for us to make a statement like that and win that game in a critical moment was just awesome," said quarterback Herman Tapley.
This win puts Montana Tech at 3-5 on the season with two games to play. So could the last second win give the Orediggers some momentum to finish the season?
"Oh I think so there's no doubt about it obviously it is if you can build off of it. That's the thing if we can use it if we can spring board it forward and latch on to it I think it can be something that turns your season around," said Morrell.
