What Happens To The Kalispell Airport Now?

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

November 5, Kalispell residents spoke out against expanding the city airport. Newly elected city council members are wondering what happens next.

The expansion was voted down by more than three-hundred votes.

However, city officials on both sides of the issue agree some changes need to be made at the Kalispell airport to keep up with federal safety regulations.

"The airport management does need to either be changed or it needs to be fixed," said Chad Graham, elected to Kalispell city council on Tuesday's ballot, "There needs to be budgeting that's set up for the airport that creates a budget that's going to allow them to pay for not only their operational costs, but any costs in the future."

"We're not going to be able to utilize the FAA money to upgrade and make the airport safer and I'm not really sure what our options are, what the council is going to do. I think the people interested in the repeal better have some ideas," said Jim Atkinson, re-elected to Kalispell city council on November 5.

Graham says the city had already begun searching for new airport management before the election.
