Gallatin County Elections Receive Over 22,000 Ballots

BOZEMAN -

Gallatin County Elections Office received over 22,000 ballots for the municipal election out of 50,000 mailed out, so far.

Mary Bardone has been working Gallatin County elections for six years, counting and sorting ballots.

"It's fun coming being with a group of people I wouldn't normally see in any other way," said Bardone.

She said the hardest part of her job is how careful everything has to be done.

"My style isn't to be that perfectionist about this, but with this you have to be so careful," said Bardone.

Gallatin County Elections Clerk and Recorder, Charlotte Mills said it's been a busy day for everyone helping out.

"We've had about 1,500 ballots dropped off in the office today," said Mills.

This election the county has a new counting machine that helps sort the ballots instead of having to do it manually.

"The machine has a lot more sorts. It's built to count hand folded ballots like the mail in ballots," said Mills. "We would probably have about 2,000 ballot scanned into the system, but instead we're approaching 10,000 ballots that have already been counted."

Mills wants to remind everyone to make sure they sign their ballot or it cannot be counted.

Voters have until 8 p.m. on Tuesday night to vote at the Gallatin County Elections Office located in the courthouse.
