Light At The End Of The Bypass?

KALISPELL -

Twenty years of planning the Kalispell bypass may come to completion in three years.

The Montana Transportation Board gave Kalispell more than $30 million to finish the remaining northern half of the alternate route.

This is about three and a half miles of roadway between US Highway 2 and Glacier High School, including the extension of Four Mile Drive.

Kalispell director of planning, Thomas Jentz, says this is all about the timing.

The city was able to secure the money because the planning is done and work can begin in just weeks. Other northwest Montana projects are in non-construction phases.

"The chamber, city officials, elected officials we went down to Helena. We presented our case before the state transportation commission and what happened was they heard us," explained Jentz.

Jentz adds, only two more properties along the proposed route still need to be negotiated.
