National Bison Day Saturday

BOZEMAN -

Saturday is declared National Bison Day.

The Senate measure giving the declaration is intended to promote the cultural and economic contribution of bison in the U.S.

The measure got full support in the Senate.

The Greater Yellowstone Coalition says this is a great way to bring awareness to a symbolic animal.

"I hope it does bring awareness to bison and appreciation of them as an animal and the role that they play, not just in our history but in conservation," said Caroline Byrd, Greater Yellowstone Coalition Executive Director.

National Bison Day doesn't add any protection to the estimated 20,000 remaining wild bison.
