Valley Center Speed Limit Not Increasing

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

Anyone driving along Valley Center Road will not see an increase to the speed limit.

The speed limit of Valley Center Road from the underpass to Jack Rabbit Lane will remain at 45 miles per hour.

A few weeks ago, Gallatin County Commissioners recommended the Montana Department of Transportation change the speed limit of the state road to 55 miles per hour.

On Thursday, MDT Officials decided bumping up the speed limit would be a danger to the surrounding homes and farms in the area.

"I think when you weigh in the safety factor of the farmers that use that road," said Rick Griffith, MDT Commissioner. "There is farm equipment that uses Valley Center Road. If the speed limit was increased, you would get people traveling two or three times faster than the equipment."

Griffith said keeping the speed limit the same will make sure the road remains safe for all travelers.
