Airport Argument Lands In Court

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

With less than a week until the election, Kalispell's municipal airport is sparking a war of words.

Attorney Connie Leistiko filed libel charges Tuesday, October 29 in Flathead County District Court on behalf of her husband, Fred Leistiko, the manager of the Kalispell airport.

She claims city councilman, Phil Guiffrida, wrongfully accused her husband of lying to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to get federal funding.

The Leistikos see the councilman's words as a "personal attack," but Guiffrida, who allegedly only found out about the lawsuit from the local media, says this is purely a ploy.

"My husband has had people say things about him that were untrue and unfair throughout his tenure, but this one went too far," said Connie Leistiko.

"This is a political stunt," explained Guiffrida, "This truly is a Hail Mary pass in the last six days prior to an election, and it's an important election."

Guiffrida says he has already turned in the necessary paperwork to the city attorney.

When asked how this might affect voters, Guiffrida says he believes the ordeal actually helps the side pushing for repeal--or against the airport's expansion.
