Judge Denies Bond Reduction for Man in Police Standoff

A Missoula judge denies bond reduction for the man who engaged police in a 21-hour standoff on the north side of Missoula.

Police said Jason Kirchner fired several gunshots at them back in September, after barricading himself inside his mobile home with his girlfriend.

Kirchner's attorney said his client underwent a mental evaluation at the jail and requested he be released on his own recognizance.

He said Kirchner's actions back in September are not consistent with his personality.

However, Judge Brenda Desmond said more information is needed to prove Kirchner is mentally fit to be released.

Judge Desmond did allow Kirchner to be screened for pre-trial supervision, meaning he could be released on a monitoring system at a later date.

Kirchner's next court date is set for Thursday, November 14.
