Crime Tracker: Property Crime On The Rise

Posted: Updated:

KHQ.COM - Property crime is on the rise in the Inland Northwest. Crimes span from hotel parking lots in North Idaho to home break-ins in Spokane.

Coeur d'Alene Police say burglars are smashing through car windows. They hit four vehicles at the Holiday Inn Express on Seltice Way last week. This week, they hit two vehicles at the Super 8 Motel.  Police say they're smashing the glass and entering through the broken windows so the vehicle alarms won't go off.

In Spokane, reports of property crime are also going up. Thieves are stealing from residential garages. Police report 22 garage burglaries in the City last week. There were 13 garage break-ins in the County. Car prowling is also on the rise.

There were 117 reports of car prowlings in the City last week, most of which happened Downtown.

In the County, there were 41 reports of car prowlings. Authorities remind you to take the following precautions:

  • Keep your vehicle locked
  • Don't leave your vehicle running unattended
  • Remove valuables from your vehicle
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked
