It was a great opening weekend for hunters in southwest Montana for the general elk and deer hunting season.
15 percent of hunters checking in at the Livingston and Cameron check stations harvested game.
That's slightly down from the 16 percent success rate reported in Livingston the last time a check station was there opening weekend of 2011.
Cameron had the highest success rate compared to the last five years.
The new Alder check station recorded 12 percent of hunters made a kill.
Hunters using the Gallatin, Mill Creek and Silver City check stations all saw less than a five percent success rate.
F.W.P. predicted the hunt in southwest Montana would be about the same as in recent years.
