Hill Not Immune From Donation Investigation

Posted: Updated:

A federal judge says former Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Hill is not immune from a possible investigation into a sizeable campaign donation.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Strong's ruling comes almost a year after Hill lost the race to Democrat Steve Bullock.

But the legality of a $500,000 donation to his campaign from the state GOP is still in question.

Hill said a possible investigation could deter him from giving the $300,000 left from his campaign back to the state Republican party to use for 2014 candidates.

Hill received the donation from the GOP last October when the state's donation limits were temporarily lifted when a judge ruled them unconstitutional.
