Humane Society Hosts ASPA "Mega Match-a-thon"

MISSOULA -

Missoulians got the chance to adopt a cat or dog in need of a home on Friday, during the ASPCA's Mega Match-a-thon at the Humane Society.

The ASPCA granted nearly $500,000 to 38 organizations across the U.S. in support of large-scale adoption events.

It's the second time the Humane Society of Western Montana has received the funding, and more than 100 people volunteered for the event in Missoula.

Lora O'Connor, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Western Montana, said, "Some of these animals have been transferred from other shelters in western Montana, and they've been waiting for a home for many, many months, so we're really excited to be able to give them the chance to find a great home in western Montana."

Cats, dogs, puppies and kittens from the Humane Society will be vaccinated, dewormed, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.

Adoption rates are cheaper during the Mega Match-a-thon, and during last year's event Missoula families took home 127 animals.

The adoption event continues on Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m.
