New Technology Presented At Teachers State Conference

Posted: Updated:
BELGRADE -

One of the highlighted topics at the teacher's conference on Thursday was the use of technology in education.

Technology is becoming more and more a part of the classroom. Share My Lesson was one of the tools teachers learned about at the state teachers conference on Thursday in Belgrade.
The website allows teachers to share their ideas with other teachers, world wide.

"They're able to go online download materials and put up their own materials," said Heidi Glidden, American Federation of Teachers.

The site was created last year and since then 360,000 teachers are using it. Teachers from across the globe can share content and ask for feedback.

"It's getting on there and being able to ask other teachers, what do you think about this? How would this work? Or how would you put it in a different situation," said Glidden.

The site allows educators to download and upload files and videos.

"It's based around teaching resources," said Glidden. "There are word documents, Power Points and Excel spreadsheets. The idea being that the teacher can download those and use them the way they want to."

Montana teachers were also bringing their own ideas to the table. A high school teacher from Billings created a new app to find out how his students are feeling before class begins. It's called I-CARE which stands for improvement classroom attitude and relationships and education.

"I thought if I could somehow get them to tell a computer how they were doing then it would teach me something about them," said Craig Beals, Billing Senior High School Teacher. "There's a little switch they can move back and forth from 0 to 100. Students then click the number according to how they are feeling that day."

He said when he came up with the app, the idea was to figure out trends in his students moods, but his goal of the app has changed.

"I've begun to realize the goal of the app is really to understand what students are like, to let them know that teachers do care and to begin to build relationships with them," said Beals.

The teacher's conference will continue on Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m. at schools throughout Belgrade.
