Parts of Montana are seeing a near record low antelope harvest this year for the opening weekend of antelope season.
Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks officials said nearly 398 hunters only harvested just over 154 antelope during the opening weekend of antelope season in the Billings and Big Timber areas.
The number of antelope was only lower in 2008.
F.W.P. officials said antelope herds in south central Montana have not fully recovered from bluetongue disease and other factors, but that shouldn't affect the herds in southwest Montana.
F.W.P. predicts the antelope population in southwest Montana to be similar to last year.
Officials said they don't know exactly how many antelope were harvested in southwest Montana last weekend because check stations are not set up.
