Big Sky Football Hopeful About Turning Season Around

Posted: Updated:

"We need to pay more attention to detail, and I think recently we've done a better job with that, and we've started to bond, and we have a lot of team chemistry coming together,"
says senor WR Alex Mustard, of Big Sky's 6 losses to start the season.

"First three weeks, we lost 4 of our good players right off the bat, and really put a kink in things.  It makes it hard when you have to shuffle kids to new spots, and we definitely went through a span there where we struggled getting through games," says Big Sky head coach Matt Johnson.

But despite their struggles, and starting off the season with six losses, the attitude never wavered.

"Our coaches, emphasis a positive attitude, to just get after each other that much more, and to have a good attitude in practice, because we're going to get that win if we keep up the good attitude," says Big Sky senior lineman Robell Bassett.

"If you lose a game, it's not the end-all, you have to plug away to the next one, and go game to game, and our kids have been real positive.  They've been able to understand where they're at, and where they need to be," says Johnson.

While injured players returned, and with a game against cross-town rival Hellgate, things finally clicked for the Eagles.

"We started to come together as a team, one person led to a play, and another big play, and it just came out, and we came out on top," says Bassett.

And going forward, they expect more performances like last Fridays…than the ones that happened in the first six weeks.

"I think we have the momentum at our backs now and I think we're going to continue to head forward after this.  We've got three games left, and we're going to make the most of it," says Mustard.

"I feel like after our first win, we really got momentum going, and we'll have another great week of practice, and that will lead to the Bison," says Mustard.
