The Griz easily beat UC Davis 47-7 on Saturday bringing their record to 5-1 for the season and 2-1 in conference play.

The Griz got off to big lead early in the game with Ellis Henderson and Trevon Van each scoring TD's in the first quarter. At halftime the Griz had a 21-0 lead on UCD.

Coach Delaney was quick to point out their strong defensive play, "Our defense is playing about as well as a defense can play." Delaney wasn't as impressed with their offensive game, "Offensively we've stumbled around and left a ton of points of the field."

UC Davis tried to grab some momentum in the 3rd quarter, quickly scoring their first TD of the game. It didn't last however as Jordan Canada scored putting the Griz up 28-7 at the end of the 3rd.

Canada scored again on the first play of the 4th turning a broken play into a 24 yard touchdown. Jordan Canada had a good day on the field with 126 yards on 24 carries.

Shay Smithwick-Hann got his chance to put up points after a 41 yard rush making the final score 42-7.

Johnson was 12 of 20 for 163 yards passing. The UM defense held UC Davis to 237 yards of total offense including two interceptions. The Griz put up 418 yards total, 163 passing and 255 rushing while UC Davis passed for 126 and rushed for 111.

A condemned murderer took nearly two hours to die and gasped for about 90 minutes during an execution in Arizona that quickly rekindled the national debate on capital punishment in the U.S.
The nation's third execution in six months to go awry rekindled the debate over the death penalty and handed potentially new evidence to those building a case against lethal injection as cruel and unusual punishment.
