Griz Prep for UC Davis

Posted: Updated:

The Griz travel to UC Davis to take on an Aggies team that is 2-0 in conference.  So they are ahead of the Griz in the conference standings but Montana will look to change that Saturday.

"Yea they are 2-0 in conference and I looked at that twice because they played both Portland State and NAU in non-conference games, which that is crazy to me.  Here they're sitting 2-0 in conference and have lost to two conference opponents and it hasn't counted against them so that's just strange," said Griz Head Coach Mick Delaney.

In the past two weeks the Griz have faced great running backs in Zach Bowman and DJ Adams.  They face another one on Saturday in Gabe Manzanares.

"He's a good running back and he is my kind of guy.  He's 5'9 200 pounds he runs downhill and is very physical and he gets better as the game goes along as he keeps pounding and pounding and pounding," said Delaney.

"He's just a straight banger he's not like Bowman who dances and goes sideline to sideline and he will just run you over so we have to prepare for that," said Griz Defensive Lineman Derek Crittenden.

But more importantly for Crittenden and the Griz defense is they have to get out to better starts on the road.  The Griz have allowed opening touchdown drives to both road opponents this season.

"Yea I don't know really why that is we start really slow and then seem to get in the groove.  I don't know if it's because we're not awake and in the football mode or what?  It's been big emphasis out of Coach Ty this week and I think we will be better," said Crittenden.

Last time Montana went to UC Davis they snuck out with a 14-10 win after overcoming a ten point deficit in the second half.
