Columbia Falls Woman Listed Critical After SWAT Standoff

Posted: Updated:

A Columbia Falls woman is in critical condition after she was shot by a Flathead County SWAT Team member following a four hour standoff.

Around 2:00 p.m. police responded to the residence of Michelle Gentry, 54, who was said to be armed and suicidal.

Police say they were able to make contact with Gentry by phone and confirmed she had a gun and was threatening to take her own life.

Gentry, who for four hours refused to come out of her home despite negotiations, eventually came outside around 6:30 p.m. carrying a handgun and advanced on SWAT team members.

The SWAT deputy then fired two rounds on Gentry.

Gentry was rushed to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and an outside investigation is being conducted on the Kalispell Police Department.

Sheriff Chuck Curry says the SWAT deputy was placed on administrative leave as per protocol, not as punishment.
