Hellgate's Stellar Goalie: Chaucer Larson

If you watch the Hellgate boyssoccer team, you'll notice they score goals in bunches…you'll also notice theydon't give many up, as Chaucer Larson makes save, after save, after save.  And Larson says the key to being a goodkeeper, is making yourself big, regardless of your stature.

"If they are the same size, youcan tell when someone is playing well they make the goal look small," says Larson.

While his coach believesLarson's success comes from his strength in the fundamentals ofgoal-keeping. 

"He doesn't let anything small goin, he makes all the simple saves, he's always in the right position, andoccasionally he comes up with the big saves that get the guys fired up," says Jay Anderson.

While his saves get the teamfired up, his competitive nature also rubs off on his teammates. 

"He gets pretty frustrated whenhis team's not doing well, and he always wants to win, he always wants theball, even though he's a goal keeper and whatnot," says senior defender Ian Frank.

To look at Larson, in additionto his tall and slender frame, you notice the red hair, and his signature lookgoggles.

"I don't know, I think he's gotflare, and I think that's what he wants," says Frank.

"The goggles are probably at thispoint, 95% my mom.  I was born witha Cataract in my right eye, and basically only have vision out of my left, so inorder to keep the good eye where it's at, I had to throw them on, and now Ican't lose them," adds Larson.

With Larson in goal, the Knightshave only allowed 4 goals on the season, and Larson has racked up 7 clean sheets, but as much as he enjoys goalie,like many at his position, he wouldn't mind spending a few minutes at anotherposition. 

"Any opportunity to get on thefield is definitely a fun one. They've decreased over the years, but honestly anywhere.  I'd love to play center-mid, orforward.  Of course, scoring a goalwould be pretty sweet," says Larson.

"He's actually a pretty goodfield player, he's got good touch. If I had to pick a position, it would be an outside midfielder,something like that.  He's got goodtouch, but he is our goalkeeper," smiles Anderson.
