YWCA Helps Victims of Domestic Violence

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and dozens of community organizations in Missoula help people escape and heal from domestic violence every day.

YWCA Missoula served more than 1,000 men, women and children who were victims of domestic violence in 2011.

The YWCA offers a 24-hour crisis line, an emergency shelter, and support groups and other services for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Employees said they work with law enforcement, emergency responders and other advocate programs in Missoula County to help empower victims of violence.

Amanda Opitz, YWCA Communications Coordinator, said, "You know, this is a community-wide issue, and so, you know, if we can work together to try to eradicate the problem, that of course would be the ultimate goal."
