Public Hearing Set on Mtn. Water Co. Purchase

MISSOULA -

Missoula City Council members will ask for the public's opinion on the city's plan to purchase Mountain Water Company -- Missoula's water supplier.

Currently, Mountain Water is owned by The Carlyle Group -- one of the largest hedge funds in the world.

The proposal is headed up by Mayor John Engen, who said the city should own its own water supply.

A public hearing is set for October 21 on an ordinance that would allow Mayor Engen to begin negotiations with The Carlyle Group.
