BIG SKY, Mont. -

Montana is now officially home to the largest ski resort in the country.

With 5,750 acres, and 4350 of those vertical, Big Sky Resort is officially the largest ski resort in the country, as of October 1.

The merger between Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin Resort was finalized last week.

In August, Big Sky Resort parent company Boyne Resorts partnered with CrossHarbor Capital to buy Moonlight Basin.

Now the two resorts are operating as one.

Big Sky Resort spokeswoman Sheila Chapman said because of the recent acquisition, there is still time get discounted prices on season passes.

"Now that the merger was complete between Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin, we decided to open up our early season passes sale to the prices we had before September 30," said Chapman.

Prices are available for the Big Sky area only, Moonlight Basin only and well as another new option, if you already bought your season passes.

"The biggest skiing in America upgrade for people who have bought passes are also available online."

You have until December 31 to upgrade your passes.

The early season prices are only available until October 31.

Chapman said because of the merger people will save more than $688 if they skied both areas last year.

She said she thinks skiers are excited to have the two resorts together.

"I think the excitement and the vibe everybody has for having both of these resorts together," said Chapman. "It's just going to bring us to a whole new level."

Big Sky Resort opens for skiing on November 28 with the Moonlight Basin area opening December 7.

If you already bought season passes for both resorts, you are asked to call the resort's Mountain Services at 406-995-8754, to get a gift card refund.

August and September is mating season for the hobo and that means you may be seeing more funnel-like webs in and around your home. Males are on a mission to find a female which is why they are a lot more active at this time.
