Body Part Found In Livingston Car Wash

LIVINGSTON -

Law enforcement confirm on Tuesday, a body part that was found at a car wash in Livingston on Monday belonged to 81-year-old Elgie G. Bedford of Wasilla, Alaska.

Bedford died after being struck by a vehicle on 1-90 near Big Timber on Monday morning.

On Monday afternoon, a driver called Livingston Police to report he found a body part on the floor of the Super Car Wash in Livingston.

"We confirmed laying on the floor of the car wash was indeed a human body part," said Darren Raney, Livingston Chief of Police.

Livingston Chief of Police, Darren Raney said his department along with Montana Highway Patrol, Park County Corner's Office and Sweet Grass County Corner's Office determined the body part belonged to 81-year-old Elgie G. Bedford, who was killed in a hit and run early Monday morning.

"They determined with a reasonable degree of certainty that it was related to the individual that was struck and killed east of Big Timber on I-90 earlier in the morning," said Raney.

Raney said the body part was likely there for a couple hours.

"We suspect this individual obviously stopped and washed their car in Livingston," said Raney.

Randy Bruce works across the street from the car wash. He said something like this is rare in Livingston.

"That never happens in Livingston," said Bruce. "There was a white Dodge pick-up that pulled into the car wash then before I knew it there was law enforcement everywhere around."

He said they had the entire car wash blocked off and law enforcement began investigating the scene, immediately.

"They all had gloves on," said Bruce. "They were talking to the guy then took him away and started washing everything."

Montana Highway Patrol has not yet ruled out if the individual who reported the body part to authorities is involved in the crime.

The Montana Highway Patrol also said Bedford may have been walking from a vehicle found near the scene when he was first hit and may have been hit several times.

If you have information regarding this incident, you are asked to call the Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office or the Montana Highway Patrol.
