A teepee stood outside Emily Dickinson Elementary School on Friday to celebrate American Indian Heritage Day.
All week, Bozeman schools passed around the teepee to honor the American Indian culture. The teepee has already visited Meadowlark Elementary School, Sacajawea and Chief Joseph Middle Schools.
School staff hope that students will gain an understanding and appreciation for their culture as well as others.
"We hope students understand that there's a bigger world out there and to recognize other cultures and diversity," said Laura Bruwelheide, Emily Dickinson Elementary Librarian.
American Indian Heritage Day is celebrated every fourth Friday since 1997.
