Community members celebrated American Indian Heritage Day in the middle of campus on Friday at the University of Montana.
Missoula County Public School and UM students raised a teepee this morning in front of the Payne Family Native American Center, followed by more American Indian cultural events.
Aubrey Ground, a UM junior and member of the Blackfeet Tribe, said Friday's events help bring people of all backgrounds together.
"I think it's important, just kind of to help other people engage in our culture, kind of show them what our culture is all about," Ground said.
UM President Engstrom and other guests also spoke at a ceremony commemorating the heritage day.
