Mountain Lion Sighting Prompts Warning

MISSOULA -

The group that operates school buses in Missoula is reminding parents of the importance of walking their kids to and from bus stops after a bus driver noticed a mountain lion on his Friday morning route.

All parents of students in Missoula County Public Schools got a phone call Friday warning them of lion sightings in the Pattee Canyon, South Hills and Miller Creek Areas. Bob Mitchell, general manager of Beach Transportation, said the driver noticed the lion on Gharrett Street between 55th Street and Upper Miller Creek Road.

"Although we saw the mountain lion in the South Hills this morning, they could be anywhere anytime. So, our message to the people here in Missoula is: we want parents at bus stops. It's very important for the safety of our children," Mitchell said.

FWP officials said it is not unusual for mountain lions to enter the area this time of year.
