Griz Ready For Big Sky Play

Posted: Updated:

When the Grizzlies roll into Flagstaff to take on the NAU Lumberjacks tomorrow there will be a couple key match ups that could decide who wins, the first is will the Griz be able to slow down Zach Bauman and the rushing attack?

"He's just one of those special guys, he's got great vision and really good speed and he plays a lot bigger than his 5'10 195 pound weight that's on the program.  He's the real deal he will be playing on Sundays I can almost guarantee you that," said Griz Head Coach Mick Delaney.

"Both coaches, coach Ty and coach Legi, are telling us front seven that we need to stop the run from the beginning.  Bauman is a great player he is quick, fast, agile and can start and stop really fast so he's going to be a good test for our defense," said Sophomore Defensive Tackle Caleb Kidder.

On defense the Lumberjacks don't overwhelm you with size but they have great speed.  They also have a pretty talented secondary that picked off Montana three times last year in a 41-31 win.

"Well NAU is what we call a 1-3 team that play a single safety free and then everybody else man to man and the only way you can do that is if you have a lot of confidence in your corners and they do.  Their corners are pretty darn physical they get their hands on you and reroute you and run well, so that will be a fun match up," said Delaney.

And in the third phase of the game, special teams, keep your eyes on number 53 for the Griz freshman kicker Ben Worst who has won the starting kicking job over the struggling Chris Lider.

"Well Ben will be the starter this week I think he has earned that spot and there will still be competition if he is not able to do it but he indicated last Saturday that he went in and did what we asked him to do and did it very well.  I've said it over and over and it's the same as if the right tackle or the left tackle doesn't play well someone else gets a chance to step in there and play," said Delaney.

Kickoff from the J Lawrence Walkup Skydome is 7 PM and the game is airing on Root Sports.
