A Happy Homecoming For Sixty-Six In Kalispell

KALISPELL -

Tomorrow, September 21 is a long-awaited day for several military families in the Flathead Valley.

At 1:00 p.m., sixty-six soldiers from the Montana Army National Guard 495th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will be coming back to Kalispell after almost a year away from home, and at least one family will be at Glacier Park International Airport an hour early so they do not miss a second of this homecoming.

"Tomorrow, my dad's gonna come home and we're gonna have a great time together," said Cameron Oberg, the eldest of the Oberg children at twelve years old.

This is the second time Cameron's dad has been deployed overseas, but that does not mean it has been any easier.

"The little things you take for granted: the kids get sick, you're sick, and there's no one there to go to the store or help out, make a meal. Just simple things like having my husband to mow the lawn," said Sabrina Oberg.

Sabrina Oberg, home-schooling mother of three and married to an active duty soldier, has mixed feelings about going to the airport tomorrow.

"You get used to a different way," explained Sabrina Oberg, "You get used to being alone. You both change. He's changed from what he's gone through over there and I know the kids have grown up a lot. I've changed, become more independent. So it's just learning to become a whole family again will take some time."

At least a week of that adjustment period the Obergs will spend in Disneyland, where Cameron, a self-proclaimed Legos aficionado, hopes to build his own light saber.

"I think it'll be...the house will be more exciting and every time he's in the room everyone feels happy," said Cameron.

Last Sunday, September 15, the unit got back to America, flying into Fort Hood, Texas where they completed required demobilization.
