Posted: Updated:

Court documents released on Friday reveal more information about the shooting that happened in Bozeman.

"I heard two loud bangs. I thought they were fireworks at first," said Mason Sweney, neighbor.

Mason Sweney lives across the street from the shooting.

"I'm really shocked," said Sweney. "This is a quiet community with excellent people and it's sad to see something happen like this."

Documents released on Friday paint the picture of a man who shot three people in cold blood. Witnesses told police the party was winding down when quote, "guys were being guys and got into a fist fight." They said Cody Little got into a fist fight with one of the victims, left the scene, went to his home got a shot gun and returned to the party.

One victim told police Little got within 5 feet of one of the victims, leveled the weapon and pulled the trigger, hitting the man in the abdomen. Documents state Little fired another shot into a crowd.

"He ran from the scene being pursued by one of the people that were present at the scene," said Ron Price, Bozeman Police Chief. "He was held and detained there as he attempted to get back into his apartment."

One witness told police Little pointed the weapon within inches of his face and pulled the trigger, but there was no ammunition left.

"It was really intense and then a lot of screaming," said Sweney.  "People were asking to call the ambulance and at that time I saw a lot of people getting on their phones outside."

ABC/FOX Montana Digital Sales Manager, Sam Spencer knows one of the men who was shot.

"I'm feeling pretty shook up. I don't understand why this would happen," said Spencer. "He keeps a big family around him at all times. He has a lot of friends and this is very sad."

According to those documents, Little said he returned to the party to help a friend who was getting beaten up, but police interviewed that friend who said he did not remember being in any fight.

At one point Little allegedly told police "I do know I shot somebody, but I was attacked." He later told police he only fired shots into the air.
