MSU Forms Team To Give Research Budget Recommendations

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

Montana State University is struggling to receive $3.5 million for research funding.

A Rapid Action Task Force has been formed to determine how the university will come up with more research dollars. President Waded Cruzado requested the task force be formed after she agreed to use $2 million from the university funds.

The group will consist of MSU administrators and professors. MSU spokesperson Tracy Ellig said the university is short $1.5 million and there are several reasons for this shortage.

"The federal sequestration progress has caused a decline in available dollars. Also, we were receiving federal stimulus funds that we're being used for research and it's much more competitive environment to win these research dollars," said Ellig.

The university uses about $100,000 per year on research. They have until the end of October to come up with ideas of how to get the funding.
