Three groups of UM students got the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to some Big Sky venture capitalists.

The groups each won the John Ruffatto business plan competition. Carlos Rivera and his team created a mobile app called Feastro. It allows you to pay for your food directly from the table bypassing the wait staff. They said a meeting like this could launch their idea into an actual product.

"I think I speak for my team when I say we are looking for early stage capital to launch our company and this provides the perfect platform to the network with the right individuals to do that, so I'm very excited," Rivera said.

He said the product is just weeks away from beta testing and could be available soon in an app store.

After a dismal winter, the U.S. economy sprang back to life in the April-June quarter, growing at a fast 4 percent annual rate on the strength of higher consumer and business spending.
The U.S. economy has rebounded with vigor from a grim start to 2014 and should show renewed strength into next year.
