BUTTE -

One of the biggest names in business delivered the evening keynote address Monday at the Montana Jobs Summit. Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google, told participants Montana has a good climate to create business.

Schmidt owns property in Montana and said building faster and stronger Internet service throughout the state will be key to helping businesses grow.

"It's going to be a recognition from the regulators at the state and federal level that we need a lot of bandwidth now to fund and grow and build that businesses," Schmidt said. "If you want to build a business in Montana that is an export oriented business, that does something other than sell around town, you need a very significant website service, you need to work with collaborators who are around the globe. You need very fast Internet. Curiously in the Big Sky area, where I am, there's a fiber optic provider. Good for you. I wish it were true in a whole bunch of cities."

Schmidt said the nation needs to continue to invest in education and remove barriers that make it difficult to start businesses.
