The Bobcats Shutout Colorado Mesa 26-0

Posted: Updated:

Montana State University may have lost their starting quarterback last week but they didn't miss a beat against Colorado Mesa University on Saturday, winning in a shutout 26-0.

Jake Bleskin made a strong showing in his first game starting for the Bobcats. MSU's defense scored quickly when Alex Singleton got a 20-yard pick six. CMU's defense was able to keep the Cats out of the end zone in the second half of the quarter but their offense couldn't put any points on the board. The first quarter ended with the Bobcats leading Colorado Mesa 11-0.

Colorado's defense got more comfortable as the game progressed, keeping the Bobcats from completing some key plays in the second quarter. MSU still managed to get another touchdown and two-point conversion ending the half at 19-0.

At the half it appeared that Colorado Mesa had a fighting chance, and the Mavericks head coach Russ Martin thought so as well, "Our defense is playing with great intensity, great tenacity, they're doing a good job tackling. The biggest thing is we have to execute, we missed a couple checks, but also we had a couple situations with the crowd noise where we had guys miss calls at the line of scrimmage."

Things didn't get better in the 3rd for Colorado. The Bobcats extended their lead 26-0. Brad Daly made some fantastic plays all day getting 4 sacs and continuing to keep the Maverick's from scoring until the clock ran out.

The brother combination of Jake and Tanner Bleskin was effective and the Bobcat's head coach Rob Ash was happy with Jake's performance, "He's doing a nice job, seeing where he needs to go, getting his reads right." Bleskin threw for 305 passing yards with 26 completions. His brother Tanner Bleskin caught 10 for 96 receiving yards.
