Newlywed Murder Story Spans Months

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

The story of Jordan Graham and Cody Johnson's death spans two months time, including this week's federal court appearances.

Court documents show eight days after Jordan Graham married Cody Johnson, she texted a friend she was having second thoughts about tying the knot.

On July 7, Johnson was reported missing, and his body was recovered in Glacier National Park five days later when Graham notified a park ranger.

As an investigation ensued, on July 16, Graham allegedly admitted she'd pushed Johnson off a cliff after they'd been arguing, but only after first fabricating a story that Johnson had fallen while hiking with friends.

Johnson's friends said Graham seemed cold and calculating in the wake of her new husband's death.

"My gut was she had involvement in the process, I know there was a point in the situation where Jordan could have done the right thing. Even if it was an accident, the right thing wasn't done. So now, we're trying to pursue what the right thing is."

In U.S. District Court this past Wednesday, her mother took the stand and admitted she and Graham's brother were present when Graham went looking for Johnson, and they did not immediately call the authorities when the body was found.

Also in court on Wednesday, prosecutors revealed Graham tried to cover up the crime, by creating a bogus email account and writing fake emails from a made-up friend -- an account that traces back to Graham's home address.

Judge Jeremiah Lynch released Graham to her parents Thursday, saying the young woman was not a flight risk nor a threat to the community.

After Friday's court appearance re-affirming she should remain free, Graham will remain on house arrest in Kalispell until her next court date.

ABC FOX MONTANA spoke with friends of Cody Johnson this week, who revealed the young couple hit it off immediately when they first met, but Graham became very controlling in the months leading up to the alleged murder.
