School Board Set To Update Firearm Policy

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

On Monday night, the Bozeman School Board will update the district's ban of firearms and weapons on school grounds.

The board will decide whether guns will be allowed in the schools for Bow Hunter Safety classes. These classes are offered both in the fall and winter semesters after school hours.

Deputy Superintendent, Steve Johnson said the hunter safety classes would have to make alternative plans if the board does not approve the firearms in the schools.

"They either wouldn't use our building for those classes or they would be required to change their curriculum and not bring guns into show students," said Johnson.

Every year, the board has to update its firearms and weapon policies. This year, the board has already approved firearms on campus for armed law enforcement officers.

The school board meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Willson School boardroom.
