Press release from Spokane County Sheriff's Office:

9-6-13/6:09 p.m.

Spokane Valley Sheriff's deputies responded to a vehicle vs. train collision on Park and Trent.  According to witnesses, the driver of a small sedan was stopped on the south side of the train tracks on Park as the arms were lowering for an eastbound train.  As the arm was nearly lowered, the 49-year-old female driver drove northbound on Park breaking the arm and stopped on the tracks.  Railroad employees said the driver had enough time to move, but stayed on the tracks.  The vehicle was struck by the train, which was not able to avoid the collision and was able to come to a stop within a short distance of the collision.  The driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.  The investigation is ongoing.

9-6-13/6:12 p.m.

Spokane Valley Sheriff's deputies responded to a robbery call at Safeway on Argonne and Mission.  23-year-old Tevan Williams stole $217 worth of alcohol from the store and ran out the front door.  Witnesses saw what happened and tackled Williams in the parking lot.  Williams was able to escape and ran to the area of Locust and Mission.  Deputies quickly set up a perimeter and Deputy Jeff Thurman and his K9 partner Laslo tracked him and eventually found him hiding in bushes on the northwest corner of Mission and Locust.  Williams was taken into custody for the theft, resisting arrest and obstructing.  Williams also had a local felony warrant for theft of a motor vehicle.

9-7-13/5:00 a.m.

Spokane Valley Sheriff's deputies responded to an armed robbery call at 7-11 on Park and Broadway.  A male suspect entered the store wearing a black nylon over his face and a gray hoodie, pointed a gun at the employee and demanded money.  The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money.  Deputies set up containment and a Sheriff's Office K9 attempted to track the suspect unsuccessfully.  Anyone with information on this robbery is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
